Tango
Strange but True!
Argentine Tango is a passion of mine, and I love to both dance and teach it.
But why does it get a page on the Release site?
Well, part of a balanced life is exercise, body awareness, social contact and intimacy, and of course FUN! So it is important that people, like yourself, have access to a great way of combining all of these things - Time to Tango!
Classes:
The plan for 2009 is still in formualtion. If you are in a hurry private lessons are possible available. Otherwise watch this space, or look at the national website for a class near you.
What is Tango?
Argentine Tango has many moods, from fun to passionate, exciting to tender.
Tango is a social partner dance, born in Buenos Aires in the early 1900's, and still danced passionately all over the world today.
Is it like Salsa or Ballroom?
No!Argentine Tango is nothing like the Ballroom-style tango with the rose in the teeth and whiplashed necks that you see on the Addams Family or on Dancing with the Stars. It is also more connected and less of a workout than Salsa.
Connection is the key
A special quality of connection with your partner and the music that makes Tango unique. Social tango is danced (all night) in a relaxed comfortable embrace. Often it is quite contemplative, but with a little more space on the floor and the right music you can really let loose, and try out some of the fancier show tango moves.
The classes are fun, and a great introduction to partner dancing. They also offer skills to improve the quality of any dancing you may be already doing.
The Right Start
Students of mine get to experience right from the start these special qualities. It is often a real surprise for those who expect a dance class to be all about "left-right-left", that complicated step patterns are totally unnecessary to enjoy tango - mere detail added to the fun of discovering how to naturally connect with music and partner so that you can improvise a really Yummy dance (yummy is a technical term often used in Tango...).
Once you have the connection you can "get" the essence of tango, and create your own "Tango Moments", no matter how many steps you know or don't know, and you can feel free to make up your own at any time!
